Our People

Attracting and retaining high-performing people is crucial to the success of our business. We recognise that long-term success stems from building a workplace that’s right for the 21st century, and having employees who are truly engaged. Staff turnover inevitably hurts our bottom line so we’re driven to build a dynamic, innovative and attractive workplace where people want to develop a career. We have a goal to be New Zealand’s Best Workplace by 2011.

To attract and retain great people, we offer a range of benefits including:
  • a corporate wardrobe allowance;
  • a health and wellness allowance;
  • superannuation and associated life insurance;
  • discounts on products and services from our preferred suppliers
  • St John first aid training
  • short-term performance-based bonuses
  • rewards and recognition – a programme where our employees nominate their colleagues to be recognised for exceptional work;
  • flexible working practices - such as working from home, shorter working weeks and part-time hours, to suit their lifestyles;
  • communityhelp volunteering programme - gives all our staff the opportunity to work in the community in a voluntary capacity for one working day a year;
  • career break – allowing people to take up to one year as unpaid leave with the security of knowing they can return to their career;
  • study leave and financial support - our people can achieve insurance qualifications through the Australia New Zealand Institute for Insurance and Finance (ANZIIF) and through our own Underwriting Academy;
  • staff referral benefit – staff who refer a friend to an IAG NZ role receive $400 when their friend starts and another $400 when they have been employed for six months;
  • employee assistance programme (EAP) - staff have access to free confidential and professional counselling managed by EAP Services.

To protect our people while they work, IAG NZ has developed a Safety and Wellness Plan to address occupational health and safety. The aim is to foster a safety culture, with a goal of zero harm. This commitment is confirmed at the highest level with the CEO in the role of Chief Safety Officer. We have achieved a tertiary level ACC rating for our Workplace Safety Management Practices.
