Residential green zone update

AUGUST 2011
We know it’s frustrating waiting for your home in the green zone to be repaired or rebuilt, but we are completing repairs and rebuilding where we are able, primarily in the north and northwest of Christchurch. We are giving highest priority to severely damaged homes, but we are also taking into account other factors such as elderly or infirm people, and families with young children.

While the green zone classification means land is able to be rebuilt on, there are a number of factors affecting when this can happen. These include:
  • GNS data around the risk of ongoing aftershocks
  • Council infrastructure reinstatement programmes; and
  • Geotechnical land reports and resulting land remediation.

It's also important to note that all rebuilds and many repairs will need a council consent before we can authorise work to begin.

Regardless of these factors, we are committed to authorising your claim as soon as we are able. Thanks for your patience, and remember that your claims case manager can answer any questions you have.
