IAG NZ wins ANZIFF Award

AUGUST 2009

IAG NZ’s Fraud and Security Risk Manager Paul Hurrell was announced 'Risk Manager of the Year' at the ANZIFF Insurance Industry Awards Gala held in Sydney on 30 July.

The awards, now in its sixth year, attracted very high calibre entrants. Paul Hurrell was a finalist alongside insurance companies Guild and Santos in the category 'Risk Manager/Team of the Year'.

The evening brought together all sectors of the insurance industry to celebrate their professional excellence and achievements during the past year, and to acknowledge the insurance industry’s ongoing commitment to recognising dedication to best practice and the highest standards of professionalism.

Hurrell was awarded 2008 Insurance Investigator of the Year at IBANZ’s General Insurance Industry Awards in 2008.  A certified fraud examiner, Paul has been with IAG NZ for 12 years and previously served as a Police Officer in the CIB, for 13 years.

“I am thrilled with this award. I hope that my recognition can help me further highlight the growing risk and challenges that insurance fraud brings to the industry”, said Mr Hurrell.

“Paul’s work in preventing fraud and promoting awareness contributes to IAG NZ keeping premiums down for all our customers. Insurance fraud costs the industry, and that cost has to be reflected in premiums. Paul's win is an outstanding achievement and something we are very proud of” said IAG NZ’s CEO, Ian Foy.

Paul also works with the Insurance Council Fraud Working Group to promote a better understanding of fraud risk throughout the industry.

The 2009 awards are presented by the Australian and New Zealand Industry of Insurance and Finance and founding partners Asia Insurance Review.
